GRANT COUNTY – Several public entities have received funding from the Oregon Legislature to improve their facilities structurally. Both the John Day and Prairie City Senior Centers received money for renovations.

Chris Labhart explains a couple of projects they’re up to at the John Day Center:

“The John Day Senior Center received over $35,000 to do some infrastructure improvements. We’re putting in a brand new floor. The original floor has been in since I think the 1950’s. We also bought three air scrubbers. Those are machines that recycle the air seven times an hour throughout our building.”

Grant County Senior Programs Manager Angie Uptmor mentioned there will be similar improvements at the center in Prairie City:

“Prairie City got a little over $60,000 and they’re also going to redo their floors. They have wood floors that have been there for many, many years. They need new countertops in the kitchen, so we’re really excited about this funding.”

There are three senior centers in Grant County. They’re in John Day, Prairie City and Monument. Each center will be open for dine-in community lunches following the two-year pandemic closure beginning next week.
