WALLA WALLA –Walla Walla City Manager Nabiel Shawa has informed the city council that he plans to retire effective October 31, 2023.
“I wanted to give them ample notice so they can plan accordingly,” Shawa said.
On the day he retires, Shawa said he will have just completed 14 years with the city of Walla Walla, having started on October 19, 2009. Next October also marks his 40th year in city management. At age 26, Shawa was appointed as city administrator of Long Beach, Washington, his hometown.
“It’s been a very challenging and rewarding career, but the time is soon coming to close this chapter of my life and go have a bit of fun with family and friends,” he said.
Shawa and his family will remain in Walla Walla.
“My wife has made it very clear she is staying here, in her all-time favorite city,” he said.
This weekend the city council will attend a retreat and one of the agenda items is discussing next year’s city manager recruitment process.
