JOHN DAY – The Grant County Fairgrounds has been appropriated $2,000,000 from the Oregon Legislature to be used for infrastructure improvements. Grant County Fairgrounds Manager Mindy Winegar mentioned that long-awaited renovations to Keerins Hall will likely take place, as well as some necessary paving, but aside from that it’ll be up to the community to decide how the money gets spent:

“Once we get the parameters as to how to spend the money…once we HAVE the money, we’ll have a couple of public meetings. It’s Grant County’s fairgrounds. It’s their grounds, and we want to make sure that this money is being spent appropriately.”

Winegar also mentioned that 16 different rural fairgrounds received money for infrastructure improvement. Both the Baker and Harney County fairgrounds will receive $2 million as well.
