WALLOWA – A three-year project to replace the Bear Creek Bridge over the Wallowa River begins this week. In addition to replacing the span, workers will realign the highway to improve the curve, widen the new bridge to make it safer for bicyclists and pedestrians, and construct the new bridge to withstand seismic activity.

For the first couple of weeks, motorists will see crews removing vegetation along the river to prepare for construction of the new bridge and the highway realignment. Through November there will be intermittent flaggers and delays of up to 20 minutes. Work is scheduled to take place Monday through Friday.Traffic will continue to use the existing bridge while the new bridge is being constructed. TripCheck.com will provide updated traffic alerts. The project is scheduled to be completed at the end of October 2024.
