Be prepared in the event of a fire at your home

BAKER CITY – Nationally there are two prevention campaigns going on regarding fire safety. According to Baker City Fire and Rescue the first is EDITH ((Exit Drills In The Home). This is teaching kids to evacuate the home to a safe place. The second is the “Close Before You Doze” safety message urging parents and children to close bedroom doors during a fire, disrupting smoke’s path and giving firefighters valuable time to make rescues.
BCFD says they “do NOT suggest that adults or children attempt to crawl under thick smoke or fire. It is better to find a “safe haven” like a bedroom sealed from the smoke or leave out a window. The smoke from house fires are much much more dangerous and toxic than campfire smoke.”
