Remains identified as missing child

KENNEWICK — The Benton County Sheriff’s Office reports the remains discovered on Sat., Feb. 5, have been identified following forensic examination. Through cooperation with local agencies, detectives have been able to confirm the identity of the remains as a child who was reported missing in 2021 from a local jurisdiction.
Detectives have coordinated with involved agencies to notify the family of the victim.
“We will provide an update to this case in the coming days,” BCSO Lieutenant Jason Erickson said.
The remains were found by a group of hikers in a rural location south of Kennewick.
