PENDLETON – A shots-fired incident at the Go Fish RV Park, 1500 S.E. Byers Ave. ended in an arrest Monday. Pendleton police responded to the park at 10:21 a.m. after receiving a report of a possibly suicidal male who broke into a trailer and fired a round from a handgun.
When officers arrived, they found a man was inside the trailer armed with the resident’s gun. The homeowner reported that the man had discharge3d a round during an apparent argument.
Officers established a perimeter, evacuated people who were close by, and attempted to establish contact with the man who has since been identified as Marvin Richard Strong, 39, of Pendleton. Additionally, School Resource Officer Lance Zaugg was deployed to Washington Elementary School to place the school on alert and stay there as a precaution.
A crisis negotiator for the police department established contact with Strong and he exited the trailer at 12:05 p.m. and surrendered to officers. He has been charged with first-degree burglary, unlawful use of a weapon, felon in possession of a weapon, pointing a firearm at another, menacing (domestic violence), second-degree disorderly conduct, and a probation violation.
No injuries were reported and Chief Chuck Byram said the case is being referred to the Umatilla County District Attorney’s Office for prosecution. Pendleton officers were assisted at the scene by personnel from Oregon State Police, Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office, and Pendleton Fire & Ambulance.
