HERMISTON – The Umatilla County Board of Commissioners is paying a bill for $22,600 from the Umatilla County Fair that wasn’t submitted until Dec. 30, 2021. Chairman John Shafer said they don’t dispute the bill, but they have a problem with how long it took to have it submitted.

“Commissioner (Dan) Dorran brought up in the meeting, (saying) ‘Hey, is there a way to get them to get us a bill in a timely fashion?’ I mean here we are several months after the fair and we’re just now getting this bill.”

The bill was for $6,600 for renting bleachers in 2021 and $1,600 for parking management for both 2021 and 2019.

The other Umatilla County commissioner, George Murdock, also had some trouble with the bill. “Commissioner Murdock was kind of shocked that we were still paying rent on bleachers, compared to what we do for EOTEC,” he said. “That’s something to keep an eye on in the future for sure.”
