WALLA WALLA — Firefighters responded Saturday night to a fire at a two-story home on the 700 block of Village Way in Walla Walla. When crews arrived around 9:30 p.m., they found a small fire on the roof. The residents were safely evacuated and no injuries were reported to firefighters or the home’s occupants.

Additional units were called in as the fire spread from the roof to the attic. After firefighters used chain saws to gain access to the attic, most of the fire was put out from the roof area.

Damage is estimated at $85,000. The fire appears to be caused by a possible structure failure in the chimney which resulted in hot embers coming in contact with combustible material.
