The following is a news release from the city of Walla Walla:
With the Sept. 30 expiration of Gov. Jay Inslee’s utility moratorium, the City of Walla Walla will resume shutting off water service for customers with delinquent accounts, unless a signed payment arrangement is made with the Finance Department.
For the past three to four months, the Finance Department has mailed notices to owners and tenants with delinquent accounts to notify them of the end of the moratorium and what could happen to past-due accounts. The current shut off notice — mailed on Monday, Sept. 27 — stated water service will be disconnected if the past-due amount is not received by Tuesday, Oct. 5.
On the morning of Wednesday, Oct. 6, customers who have not paid the past-due amount will receive a tag on their door giving them an additional 24 hours to pay. On the afternoon of Thursday, Oct 7, customers who have not paid the past-due amount or contacted Finance to set up a signed payment arrangement, will have the water disconnected.
Customers with past-due accounts are encouraged to contact the Finance office at 509-527-4423 to set up a payment arrangement. If unable to reach Finance by phone, customers may use this contact form.
Payment plans may be extended for 18 months, and require the customer to pay the current bill plus the amount agreed upon through the payment arrangement. Several local agencies may be able to provide assistance with utility payments. The back of customers’ utility bills includes contact information for these agencies.
