Commissioners to tackle mental health funding

WALLA WALLA – The Walla Walla County Board of Commissioners meet today (Tuesday) at 10 a.m. Commissioners are expected to approve the Walla Walla County Department of Community Health’s proposal to allocate one-tenth of one percent of the county’s sales tax for mental health funding.
There will be $400,000 available for the 2022 calendar year. During this funding cycle, the Walla Walla County Board of Community Health, Behavioral Health Council and Walla Walla County Board of Commissioners identified these priorities: access to care to promote resilience and recovery from mental health and/or substance use disorders, suicide prevention/reduction of harm, reduce the need to utilize costly and less-effective interventions of emergency and hospital services, and youth behavioral health.
Also on the agenda, approve a resolution allowing the use of county roads for the Walla Walla Multi-Sports Onion Man Triathlon which will be held Saturday, May 21 between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. The following roads would be used: Reservoir Road from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Mill Creek Project office to North Tausick Way; from North Tausick Way to the Walla Walla Community College entrance to Isaacs Avenue; along the Isaacs Avenue bike path to Mill Creek Road, Five Mile Road, Russell Creek Road, Berney Drive, Scenic Loop Road; from there, reversing the course for the return trip.
