BAKER CITY – Earlier this week, at this week’s Baker City Council meeting, Baker City Fire and Rescue (BCFD) official welcomed Probationary Firefighter/Paramedic Patrick Foss to the department. During the meeting an official badge pinning ceremony was held, symbolizing Foss’s membership. Fellow BCFD Firefighter/Paramedic David VanDyke pinned Foss during the meeting.
According to BCFD it is tradition for the member to choose a friend or family member to pin the badge. It was noted that Foss and VanDyke have been friends since high school “being Student Firefighters together at Westside Fire District in Hood River. They took different paths but have met back here as career Firefighters in Baker City.”BCFD also noted that “Patrick is doing well during the first quarter of his probation, learning medical protocols, firefighting operations, and infamous “map drills.” He is currently preparing for his “quarter 1 probie test” where he will complete a medical protocol test, a written test, and a fire skills test. Patrick will need to successfully complete all 4 tests to be inducted as a full-fledged member of the department.”
