Senior Center will become Children’s Center

PENDLETON – The Pendleton Children’s Center has been in search of a location for a childcare center for some time, but now a solution is on the horizon. The Active Senior Center of Pendleton Board of Directors has donated its building at 510 S.W. 10th St. to the nonprofit organization.
The acquisition of the building is just the beginning of realizing its goal. In the near future, the Pendleton Children’s Center Board of Directors will launch a capital campaign to raise funds to remodel the facility. In a news release, the board announced that in order to open, extensive renovations will be needed. Those include adding a playground, classrooms, and additional restrooms.
The ultimate goal is to open a childcare center with room for 150 or more children from 6 weeks through kindergarten. The organization said that surveys show those are the ages where childcare is most needed in Pendleton.
The board is asking community members to get involved in its campaign to make the center a reality.
“Let your family, friends, neighbors, employers, and elected officials know that Pendleton Children’s Center will need significant and sustained support from this community to get started and grow to meet the demand for childcare,” the release states. “Plan to donate in whatever way you or your business can.”
