BAKER CITY – (Release from OTEC) Time is running out to power your future! The deadline to apply for one of Oregon Trail Electric Cooperative’s academic scholarships and the D.C. Youth Tour is Monday, January 31.

Through the OTEC Member Foundation, scholarships are available to graduating high school students, returning college students and adults entering educational and technical programs.

Academic scholarships are in the amount of $5,000. Four will be allocated to the OTEC-EOU Rural Scholarship Program, an exciting partnership between OTEC and Eastern Oregon University. For the third year, four incoming EOU freshman will have the opportunity to have their entire four years of tuition and fees paid for, if they commit to attend and graduate from Eastern Oregon University and complete a summer internship with OTEC.

The other academic scholarships are for graduating high school students, returning college students or adults looking to begin college.

OTEC also awards $5,000 Lineman College scholarships and $2,500 Trade School scholarships. Applications to the lineman and trade school scholarships are accepted year-round and will be awarded until funds are exhausted.

Your member-owned electric cooperative and the OTEC Member Foundation doesn’t want anyone to miss the opportunity to further their education and earn money for school!

Applications and specific criteria for all the OTEC scholarships are available at otec.coop/scholarships.

The clock is also ticking for local high school juniors to experience a once-in-a-lifetime adventure through the Washington, D.C. Youth Tour!

Up to four local juniors will be awarded an all-expenses paid trip to the nation’s capital, where they will spend a week visiting historical sites, meet with Oregon’s congressional leaders, become educated about rural electric cooperatives like OTEC and learn life-long leadership skills.

The Youth Tour is set to be held June 18-24, 2022

Students can apply now at otec.coop/dc-youth-tour.

All OTEC scholarships (including the DC Youth Tour) are funded through unclaimed capital credits and do not affect members’ rates.
