GRANT COUNTY – The Grant County Sheriff’s Office were advised yesterday morning of two vehicles stuck in the snow in the remote northwest corner of Grant County. The call came in from the Highway 207 and Bull Prairie Area. Sheriff Todd McKinley stresses the importance of being prepared for this type of situation:

“Make sure you have some supplies, you know—SOMETHING. Pack a sack lunch with you, make sure there’s some way to start a fire in the car, a shovel…

I’ve seen vehicles get stuck and be able to self-recover with tow straps or ratchet straps because they work like a little winch.

The Sheriff said the occupants from the two vehicles were able to make it to safety, but as of this morning the vehicles were still stuck in the snow. He noted the incident occurred near the Wheeler County line. Below is a release yesterday from the Wheeler County Sheriff’s Office regarding that stretch of Highway 207:

“1/5/2022 1245 pm

Deputies are currently out with a jacked knife commercial vehicle on Highway 207 about milepost 8. There are multiple other commercial vehicles in Highway 207 having issues. With I84 being temporarily closed east of Pendleton, Wheeler County roads are seeing increased commercial vehicle traffic. In the current conditions, it is recommended for commercial vehicles to avoid Highway 207 if possible. ODOT has been notified.”
