Eastern Oregon – Motorists suffered through another closure on Interstate 84 between Pendleton and Baker City Wednesday. Meanwhile, last night brought snow to higher elevations and a wintry mix below. However, there is sunshine on the horizon.
The National Weather Service at Pendleton forecasts that the winter storm warnings and winter weather advisories expire at noon today (Thursday). Meanwhile, temperatures are expected to stay above freezing tonight and tomorrow at lower elevations with rain forecast. Those in the mountains will see lows just below the freezing mark with snow. Rain is forecast for the lowlands.
Saturday will be worth the wait. The forecast is for mostly sunny skies through Tuesday. High temperatures will be above freezing in the valleys and below the freezing mark at higher elevations. Meanwhile, because of the snow that’s already fallen, especially in the mountains, the Oregon Department of Transportation wants to remind motorists that weather conditions can change in a flash, and they should carry supplies with them.
ODOT has a list of what should be in the car. It includes chains, a flashlight with fresh batteries, a cell phone and charger, food and water, flares, tools, maps, blankets, extra clothes, a first aid kit, a shovel, and an ice scraper. Those with small children are also advised to pack essentials like diapers, wipes, and other baby-friendly necessities.
