GRANT COUNTY – County workers were busy on Sunday breaking up and dealing with an ice jam in Canyon Creek. Flooding has always been a concern for Grant County residents. High temperatures on Thursday are forecast into the upper 40’s for the John Day Basin. Emergency Management Coordinator Eric Bush recently said officials are ready to deal with potential flooding:
“We’re very prepared to deal with flooding, particularly in areas where we have a lot of houses here in the John Day Basin, Mt. Vernon and downstream.
The weather reports can kind of help us predict flooding. There are a number of flow gauges that we have, and those can actually give us sometimes a two-to-three-hour warning for flash flooding and things like that.”
