Statewide Foreclosure Moratorium has expired, local organization to offer housing counseling

EASTERN OREGON – The foreclosure moratorium, established to prevent foreclosures due to effects of the Covid-19 Pandemic in Oregon expired on Friday, December 31st.
The Oregon Legislature allowed Governor Kate Brown to extend the moratorium twice, but did not allow her to extend it past Dec. 31, 2021.
The moratorium allowed homeowners to defer their mortgage payments to the end of 2021. Now, however the normal order is returning. For homeowners who are behind on payments, or at risk of missing a payment, there are free housing counseling services available.
A list of certified housing counselors can be found at this link.(https://www.oregon.gov/ohcs/homeownership/pages/housing-counseling.aspx) Those seeking counseling should be aware of the possible interruption to service due to the holiday season. In Union, Wallowa, and Baker Counties, Community Connections of Northeast Oregon will fill the role.
