JOHN DAY & BURNS – Grant-Harney County CASA Director Hannah Hinman was recently in EMG studios, and informed our listeners that there will be a new Court Appointed Special Advocate training coming up in January:
“We have been partnering with CASA of Eastern Oregon a lot more on training and both pre-service training and continuing education. They are offering a training in January and we have free liberty to have our folks participate.”
Hinman said roughly 60 kids are involved in juvenile dependency cases between the two counties, and CASA is able to serve only about 50% of them due to a lack of advocates. According to their website, “The mission of Grant-Harney County CASA is to train and support volunteers who will provide all abused and neglected children in Grant and Harney Counties a voice in juvenile court, and to educate the community regarding its responsibility for abused and neglected children.”
