PENDLETON – It may be winter, but the aquatic center is on the minds of the Pendleton Parks and Recreation Department. Director Liam Hughes said they finished the summer season knowing there was a leak somewhere in the facility, but it wasn’t easy to find.

“It’s a 1.5-million-gallon aquatic center, so there are a lot of places where that thing could potentially be leaking,” he said.

A camera inspection didn’t find the problem, so ground-penetrating radar was brought in and it appears it’s been located.

“The pool is a slab of concrete, and the pipes go down through the concrete into a gravel base,” he said. “They found a spot where the gravel has been disturbed where it looks like water is leaking out.”

Hughes said the city will hire a pool contractor to fix the problem area, hopefully before the summer swimming season begins again.
