COLLEGE PLACE – The College Place City Council will meet tonight (Tuesday) at 7 p.m. and is expected to act on a $20,000 Washington State Department of Natural Resources community forestry assistant grant request. The grant would go towards an urban forestry management plan.

Specifically, the grant would support collection of geographic information systems and GPS work for trees within the city’s roughly 28.93 miles of locally-classified roadway. Additionally, an urban forestry plan would be created which would catalog the location and information of existing trees and set forth a plan to maintain them and add to the city’s tree canopy.

The council is also expected to approve a motion to award the 4Bikes project to Culbert Construction in the amount of $532,818.22. The 4Bikes project is a continuation of the cycle track on Fourth Street, which includes sidewalk upgrades and street lighting. The city has until the end of March 2022 to spend a $500,000 state Transportation Improvement Board grant for the 4Bikes project. The city has another $100,000 set aside for this project as well. Streetlights for this project, that are to be installed as part of this project, have already been ordered by the city.

Other items on the agenda include accepting a solar array grant from the Department of Commerce at the city water tank site and applying to Transalta for a solar array project also at Whitman and Maple.

The meeting may be viewed on the city’s YouTube channel or via Zoom. The meeting ID number is 842 2850 1253.
