OLYMPIA – Washington Governor Jay Inslee Monday announced his climate proposals for the 2022 legislative session which begins in January, which he hopes will bolster Washington’s leadership in clean energy and economic growth.
Inslee’s climate package includes proposed investments including funds for capital construction of green buildings, grants to transit agencies, program to incentivize electric vehicles; grants for school, pedestrians, and safety; and funds to improve state bikeways and trails.
The governor is also proposing legislation to strengthen energy codes for new buildings that puts Washington on track to achieve zero-emission new construction. Additionally, Inslee’s proposal includes $100 million for a customer rebate that would reduce upfront buying costs and make electric vehicle prices comparable to those of internal combustion engine vehicles, to persuade more consumers to purchase electric vehicles instead of gas-powered vehicles.
“We have made good progress in our state, but it is not enough, and we must do more. Now is the time to act boldly and quickly – to protect the planet and to grow our economy with clean energy jobs,” Inslee said.
Inslee announced his climate package at the new Capitol Campus childcare center which will be a zero emissions building.
