LA GRANDE – (Information provided by Eastern Oregon University) Eastern Oregon University and Oregon State University will offer opportunities for classes on rangeland research.  This program will benefit students in the rural areas of Northeast Oregon especially in the cattle and dairy industries.  Eastern Oregon University and Oregon State University has offered classes in agricultural to students for several years but the two programs have historically operated separately, with little involvement of each other.  With the partnership of EOU and OSU, the program will allow students who live or want to live in Eastern Oregon to stay in Northeast Oregon without moving to Corvallis.

OSU and EOU are now planning to take their longtime classes by combining the two programs with Eastern Oregon Agriculture and Natural Resource Program and the Eastern Oregon Agriculture Research Center in Union.

The Union Experiment Station is where researchers study rangeland ecology, livestock systems, forage crops, and forest management.

Vice President for University Advancement at EOU Tim Seydel said, “We are looking forward to new investments in curriculum and facilities in eastern Oregon. This will benefit all students in La Grande and the region, including those enrolled in the partnership with Oregon State and those earning a degree here at EOU. Students majoring in our programs like Agriculture Entrepreneurship or Sustainable Rural Systems will see additional opportunities to engage in hands-on learning at the Union Experiment Station and in the wider community.”

“Agriculture is a key industry in eastern Oregon and the state, and this kind of investment in research and education promises new opportunities for today’s producers. As Oregon’s Rural University, EOU facilitates a number of partnerships that connect industry and business with emerging data and technology that can be applied in the field. Reinvigorating the Union Experiment Station provides additional resources for strengthening student research that supports rural economies.”
