Pendleton man arrested following pursuit

PENDLETON – A short pursuit in Pendleton Monday began after employees at Bi-Mart called 911 at 7:45 p.m. to report an individual just ran out with a stolen firearm. By providing dispatch a brief description of the suspect and vehicle, officers located a vehicle matching the description on Tutuilla Road.
Pendleton Police Chief Chuck Byram said when an officer attempted to stop the vehicle it fled at a high rate of speed southbound out of town eventually breaking down near Best Road and Tutuilla Road.
The driver, Devin Kekoa Meyers, 31, of Pendleton was taken into custody. He faces multiple charges including attempting to elude, reckless driving and unauthorized used of a vehicle. He’s been booked into the Umatilla County Jail and his bail is set at $35,000.
Byram said while the vehicle matched the description and Meyers matched the general description given by Bi-Mart employees, officers were not able to locate a firearm in the vehicle.
The Pendleton Police Department is trying to figure out if Meyers is the true suspect and, if so, what did he do with the weapon prior to officers locating him in the vehicle.
“There was a short time frame where he was obviously out and about without us knowing who he was or where he was,” Byram said.
