BAKER COUNTY – Utility Scam Awareness Day was yesterday but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t remain vigilant to scams as the holidays approach. The busiest shopping time of the year is often also a very high time for consumer scams including utility company scams.
A couple of common scam tactics include:
•Demanding same day payment via a prepared card, Bitcoin or QR Code
•Demanding immediate payment over the phone
It is importance to know who you are talking too. If you receive a call that seems suspicious hang up and contact your local utility provider directly and never give out personal information or financial information to callers unless you are certain the call is authentic.
