WALLA WALLA – The Walla Walla City Council will meet virtually today (Wednesday) at 6:30 p.m. for its regular board meeting to consider adopting a resolution authorizing a professional services contract with MacKay Sposito for design work for the Mill Creek Sportsplex improvements project.
If approved, the contract is not to exceed $271,018.82 and includes the following tasks: stakeholder agreement, eight pickleball courts, expansion of existing parking lot, a maintenance storage building and yard, plus access and full street improvements on Garrison Street.
According to city records, the reason a consultant is being hired is there are aspects of this project which city staff does not have the qualifications to perform such as landscape architecture and geotechnical work. The contract will be funded by American Rescue Plan Act monies and the Walla Walla Pickleball Association is leading a fundraising effort to assist with construction of the new pickleball courts.
The council will also consider eliminating the 2022 recycling commodities surcharge, a savings of $1.34 per month for residential accounts. The council set the surcharge in October 2020, but recycling commodities have been negative for a while. Staff will monitor cost trends through the coming new year and return to the council to adjust the recycling commodities rate if necessary.
A live stream of the meeting may be viewed on the city’s website at the city council webpage or via Zoom. The meeting ID number is 844 0206 6850.
