Baker City Police Department recently hosted De-Escalation training

BAKER CITY – The Baker City Police Department (BCPD) recently hosted, in partnership with DPSST (Department of Public Safety Standards and Training) De-Escalation: Strategies for Best Possible Outcomes presented by Command Presence Trainings.

According to information from the Baker City Police Department, “this course provides officers with tools and tactics intended to achieve the most desirable outcomes during law enforcement encounters, while balancing the need to effectively engage with people in crisis with the need for officers to keep themselves and others safe. Over thirty people from various agencies from in and around Eastern Oregon were in attendance including BCPD’s Sergeant Wayne Chastain, Officer William Mercado and Officer Koby Essex. BCPD would like to thank the Baker City Christian Church for providing meeting space, at no cost, for the purpose of holding this training.Chief Ty Duby, Major Crime Detective Zach Thatcher and Narcotics Detective Chris Sells attended the Oregon Narcotics Enforcement Association (ONEA) Training Institute Conference this past week in Bend, Oregon. This conference hosted by Oregon Narcotics Enforcement Association (ONEA) and Oregon-Idaho High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDA) featured such training topics as: Case Study; K-9 as a Narcotics Tool and Case Law; Drug Trends and Safety and Human Trafficking and Drugs.”
