PENDLETON – The National Weather Service has predicted cooler weather for this week, after the area received slightly higher readings in September.
“Wednesday night and especially Thursday night, we will see low temperatures down right around freeing or possibly lower,” National Weather Service Hydrologist Marilyn Lohmann said.
This month historically shows a dramatic drop in average temperatures from the beginning to the end. Pendleton’s falls 14 degrees while Hermiston and Walla Walla average a 15 degree drop.
For September, Pendleton’s average temperature was 63.7 degrees, which is 0.2 degrees above normal. Walla Walla reflected the same increase with an average temperature of 65.4 degrees. Hermiston’s average was the highest, at 65.2 degrees. That’s 1.8 degrees above the norm. The lowest readings for Pendleton at 38 degrees and Hermiston at 37 degrees were recorded on Sept. 16. Walla Walla’s lowest reading last month was 45 degrees on Sept. 1.
