HEPPNER – Morrow County Deputy District Attorney Richard Tovey is getting ready to become Hermiston’s first in-house, full-time legal counsel after almost a decade as deputy DA. He’s giving up late night calls from crime scenes to work in civil law, but he is schooled for that as well. For the last six years, the Morrow County District Attorney’s Office has also served as the county’s legal counsel.
“We have had the responsibility of working for the board of commissioners in Morrow County as county counsel, so I’ll be transferring those skills over to the city,” he said.
Tovey and his family live in Hermiston, and he said the job change will allow him to become more involved in that city’s activities. Meanwhile, District Attorney Justin Nelson is looking for a new deputy.
The position is posted on the Morrow County website and Tovey said that it’s a great job.
“He’s offered a lot of opportunities for growth and training,” he said. “I don’t know if you could find a better spot as a district attorney to come into work.”
