PENDLETON – The Pendleton City Council has approved a $12 million project to replace the water booster pump station and tank on the west end of the city. City Manager Robb Corbett said that will not just benefit the airport industrial park users. It will also help those below airport hill, especially when it comes to fighting fires.
“There are times when the water pressure down in the valley falls below nine or 12 pounds per square inch,” Corbett said. “The standard is a minimum of 20 pounds per square inch.”
The project is part of the Water Master Plan which was adopted in 2015. Mayor John Turner said that it became vital to complete due to the heavy expansion at the Greater Eastern Oregon Regional Airport.
“We barely have enough flow right now with the current airport capacity,” he said. “We’re building a hotel, we’re building more hangars up here, we’re building more test pads, and we’ve got to have more flow up here.”
Turner said the added benefit will be for the entire west end of the city.
