PENDLETON – August was hotter and drier than normal throughout the region. The good thing is, as the days wound down, National Weather Service Hydrologist Marilyn Lohmann said the searing heat mellowed a bit.
“We finally saw the last of some extreme heat and have been enjoying some nicer weather the last couple of weeks of August,” Lohmann said.
There were six days in Pendleton when it was at least 100 degrees last month. Hermiston had eight of those extremely hot days, and Walla Walla recorded four.
Precipitation for August was 0.01 inches in Pendleton, 0.37 inches below normal; 0.00 inches in Hermiston, 0.2 inches below normal; and 0.27 inches in Walla Walla, 0.3 inches below normal.
The September forecast from the National Weather Service calls for continued above normal temperatures and below normal precipitation.
