PENDLETON – Urban renewal funding is fueling major road projects in the downtown area this summer. Pendleton Public Works Director Bob Patterson said that streets are being widened, including Southeast Seventh Street at Til Taylor Park.
“We’re providing diagonal parking on the east side or the park side to accommodate the additional patronage of the park with the splash park development,” Patterson said.
Another street-widening project is Southwest Eighth between Emigrant and Frazer avenues. That street provides access to a number of businesses and Patterson said the widening will make for a safer transition between the two one-way avenues.
Patterson said the total cost of the urban renewal street projects is approximately $1,268,000. The work is to be completed by the end of October.
