WALLA WALLA – A fire in the 800 block of Emma Street was reported early this morning (Friday). The reporting party said smoke was coming from the residence, alarms were going off, and no one was answering the door.
Crews from stations 1 and 2 saw light smoke coming from the duplex when they arrived shortly after 2 a.m. The Walla Walla Fire Department states they performed a fast attack and search of the residence and discovered a man inside. He was quickly brought outside to paramedics, according to a news release.
“Resuscitation efforts were performed on the scene; however, the victim was unable to be revived,” the news release states.
WWFD had assistance from the College Place Fire Department and Walla Walla County Fire District No. 4. The fire was controlled at 2:18 a.m. No firefighters were injured.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. Damage is estimated at $18,000.
