UMATILLA COUNTY – The Umatilla County Board of Commissioners has approved allowing the city of Umatilla to add 150 acres to its urban growth boundary.
“This involves property to allow for additional industrial growth,” Board Chairman George Murdock said.
The request for the change came from the city and the property owner, Alan Cleaver. The land is south of the city and east of Powerline Road. It is currently zoned exclusive farm use, but the city wants to change it to light industrial, and is already far into the process of doing so. The Umatilla County Planning Commission has voted unanimously in favor of the change.
Also at its meeting yesterday, the board approved giving the city of Stanfield $93,000 for a pedestrian lighting project. The Oregon Department of Transportation has approved the project and requires local matching money. The money is available in the county’s bicycle path/footpath funding. The board of commissioners also approved paying $50,000 to the city of Hermiston to help pay for a preliminary report on placing a bridge over the Umatilla River. The proposed bridge would serve as an extension of either Elm or Punkin Center roads and connect with Interstate 84.
