WALLA WALLA – The new $5.1 million roundabout State Route 125, Plaza Way, Ninth Avenue and The Dalles Military Road is now open. The Washington State Department of Transportation and Nelson Construction opened the roundabout Tuesday afternoon.
“Be patient, slow down, and definitely pay attention,” Walla Walla Public Works Director Ki Bealey said.
While the new roundabout is open, the new signal at Plaza Way and Tietan Street has been delayed due national supply chain shortages.
“So, we’re making do with the one signal until the new one is operational,” Bealey said.
In mid to late September, the signal will be replaced with an even more efficient signal with technology designed to facilitate traffic flow at the Plaza Way and Tietan Street intersection.
The city of Walla Walla has put together a step-by-step guide to navigating the roundabout. It is posted on the city’s website.
Drivers are reminded to use the left lane when traveling from Plaza Way to either State Route 125 or The Dalles Military Road, use the right lane from Plaza Way to Ninth Avenue.
From State Route 125, use the right lane if going to Plaza Way, the left lane if going to The Dalles Military Road and use either lane if going to Ninth Avenue.
If drivers are traveling from The Dalles Military Road, they use a single lane get to State Route 125, Ninth Avenue or Plaza Way.
From Ninth Avenue, use the right lane if going to The Dalles Military Road, the left lane if going to Plaza Way and use either lane if going to State Route 125.
