Youth livestock auction rakes in over a half-million dollars

JOHN DAY – Results are in for this year’s Grant County Youth Livestock Auction and the totals are through the roof! 126 animals went across the auction block for a sale total of over a half-million dollars, $505,545. This amount is over $200,000 more than last year’s historic numbers.

Highlights of the sale included Danner May’s Reserve Grand Champion turkey for $1750; Brook Taynton’s Grand Champion hog sold for $40 a pound totaling $10,440; and in the beef division, Tate Waddel’s steer sold for $25 a pound for a total of $31,525.

Tate donated the proceeds of his steer to Blue Mountain Hospital for the purchase of pediatric physical therapy equipment. Auction secretary Shannon Springer noted that they are still accepting add-ons for the youth through this Friday. Call her at (541 377-8354.
