Development commission and city council meet this evening

PENDLETON – The Pendleton Development Commission and the Pendleton City Council have relatively light agendas at their meetings this evening. Both meetings are in city council chambers and available via Zoom.
At the PDC meeting, commissioners will hear reports from the grants committee, the Jump Start Committee, and the advisory committee. The PDC will also review the July financial report. The only new business on the agenda is a discussion of the PDC’s debt repayment requirements over the next several years.
The city council meeting will begin with a report on the Chamber of Commerce’s Get Wild in Pendleton campaign. The council will also hear from Kimberly Lindsay of Community Counseling Solutions, and get an overview of court operations by Municipal Judge Monte Ludington.
The council will also consider appointing two people to serve as municipal court judges pro tem. They are attorneys Jody Vaughan and Blaine Clooten. Because the city judge is a part time position, city staff feels the greater number of eligible judges available will aid if there is a conflict case and one judge has to be recused.
The annual renewal of the contract with Umatilla County Emergency Dispatch Services is before the council for approval. The cost for police services is $322,765, and the cost for service to the fire department is $97,588.99. Each of those departments have budgeted for that expense.
The council is also being asked to approve $127,952 for a bookmobile for Pendleton Public Library. The library applied for and received a grant for the bookmobile from the American Rescue Plan Act. Once it’s up and rolling, the bookmobile will visit Mission, local schools, daycares, and community events.
