MT. VERNON – Early this morning, multiple agencies responded to a structure fire up Harper Creek road out of Mt. Vernon. According to Grant County Sheriff Todd McKinley, the house was fully involved upon the fire department’s arrival. It was a duplex belonging to Tony Parson and the other portion was occupied by Ailene Capaldo. The duplex was a total loss. The Sheriff said the incident also started a wildland fire that burned vehicles. Luckily, all residents made it out of the home safely.
The Mt. Vernon Fire Department responded, and John Day Rural provided mutual aid for personnel and equipment. The Fire Marshall and American Red Cross have been notified. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. We’ll provide further information as it comes in.
