HEPPNER – The numbers of candidates for Oregon governor are growing, and you can’t even register as a candidate yet for the election that will be held in November 2022. Kate Brown is not eligible for another term, and so for the first time in more than two decades, Oregonians will select a chief of state from a field that includes no incumbents.
Rep. Greg Smith, a Republican from Heppner, said that he will endorse a candidate after he’s had a chance to study them in depth. He already knows who he won’t be supporting, but doesn’t name names.
“There are certain candidates I will not be supporting simply because I believe the partisanship in Oregon needs to come to an end and we need to all figure out how to work together,” he said.
Smith said he will look for the candidate that would be the best choice for his constituents.
“In the end I’ll be looking for that candidate that can cross party lines, that can find solutions, that’s not afraid to speak their mind and just say the truth,” he said.
