WALLA WALLA — As work continues on the State Route 125 and Plaza Way roundabout, the Washington State Department of Transportation is reminding drivers and pedestrians to use caution in and around the construction zone.
“People are not permitted in the construction zone,” WSDOT spokesperson Jackie Ramirez said. “Pedestrians do have access around the construction site and should stay on the designated path.”
WSDOT reminds drivers to continue using the detour provided and pedestrians should use the designated path even when there is no active construction occurring.
According to Ramirez, the contractor, Nelson Construction, is currently on schedule.
“Of course, there’s always a risk that the schedule could slip,” Ramirez said.
The $5.1 million project provides improvements to the State Route 125/Plaza Way intersection from milepost 4.36 to 4.65 within the Walla Walla city limits by replacing the existing signalized intersection with a roundabout, providing pedestrian and bicycle route connectivity, ADA ramps, replacing a city traffic signal system, pavement reconstruction and other work.
Due to construction activities the full closure of State Route 125 between Myra Road and Orchard Street will continue through Tuesday, August 17. Detours are in place. The entire project is scheduled to be completed this fall.
