HERMISTON – The city of Hermiston is working with a consultant to study what role it could take in planning a roadmap for digital infrastructure. Assistant City Manager Mark Morgan said the city is still trying to determine what role, if any, it should play in expanding wireless service.
“Is it viable, either through the city as a municipal utility or through some sort of public-private partnership, for us to enhance access to internet in the community,” is the question he said the city council hopes to answer.
The city has hired Strategic Networks Group as its consultant
“We’re definitely not ready to deploy something right away, but we’re on the way towards getting there,” Morgan said.
He said city leaders were interested in the issue before COVID-19 struck and dramatically pointed out the importance of robust internet service.
