HERMISTON – The Hermiston City Council is holding a work session at 6 p.m. and a regular meeting at 7 p.m. today (Monday) at the Hermiston Community Center. The council will study a proposed roadmap for planning the city’s digital infrastructure as well as discuss an emergency plan being proposed for the city at the work session.

Both of those issues are also on the agenda for the regular meeting.

City staff has been researching fiber broadband infrastructure options for the past year. Problems exist because city facilities are currently served by a number of providers. The city has worked with Strategic Networks Group to plan a roadmap for digital infrastructure and the council is reviewing the first part of that plan.

As for the emergency plan, Police Chief Jason Edmiston and Umatilla County Fire District No. 1 leadership to come up with an emergency plan for varying levels of response. He found, while working on accreditation, that the city did not have such a plan. At this meeting, the council is asked to give feedback on changes to the plan. It will be considered for adoption at a future meeting.

The meeting is open to the public. It is also streamed live on the city’s YouTube channel.
