WW parking enforcement resumes soon

WALLA WALLA – Drivers in Walla Walla have been getting a bit of a break because the city has not had a parking enforcement officer, but not anymore. After being without a parking enforcement officer for 16 months, the Walla Walla Police Department has offered someone the job.

“He should start on August 2 pending successful completion of our background check,” WWPD Chief Scott Bieber said.

The former parking enforcement officer, Amy Harris, became a code enforcement officer back on March 1, 2020.

In addition to hiring a new parking enforcement officer, Bieber said the department plans to have an automated license plate reader installed on the parking enforcement scooter and the new employee trained on how to use the equipment by August.

“The automated license plate reader is at a cost of roughly $37,000,” Bieber said.
