EOU offers a one week program to earn extra credit

LA GRANDE – Eastern Oregon University’s Property Hunters Summer Institute will consists of participants of Union County and Baker County, exploring the brownfield process, which is a hands on program that focuses on turning the brownfield process into usable properties. The participants will be investigating the reasons properties are abandoned, learning about the science of toxins and potential hazards, touring historic La Grande, and brainstorming the potential in each building. Plus, they earn two college credits and prepare a community presentation.
The cost is $250 which will cover the two college credits earned and materials. Schools in La Grande and Baker School Districts as well as other districts have received federal and state funding for summer bridge programs. There are several paid spots but a participant needs to check with their school district ask about Property Hunters or college prep funds.
Baker Technical Institute will supply transportation from Baker to the EOU campus in La Grande.
Students meet on-campus in La Grande from 10am to 4pm, July 12-16 (1pm release on Friday), and lunches/snacks are provided.
