Fire near Dufur is state’s first conflagration

DUFUR – The Northwest Incident Command Center reports that the Wrentham Market Fire, burning six miles east of Dufur has been declared Oregon’s first conflagration of the wildfire season. The blaze has burned an estimated 10,000 acres. The lead agency fighting the fire in Wasco County is the Oregon Fire Service.
The fire has already destroyed one barn and has forced as many as 100 people to evacuate their homes. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
With the Emergency Conflagration Act declaration, the Office of the State Fire Marshal’s Red Incident Management Team assumed command of the battle at 9 a.m. Wednesday. Additional resources from counties throughout the state are being called out to assist in the response.
Three task forces, totaling 41 people, 12 engines, three water tenders, three command vehicles and two support units from Multnomah, Washington, and Yamhill counties arrived today (Wednesday). This is the third fire in a month and the second in a week in Wasco County to rise to Level 3 (Go Now) evacuation notices.
