WALLA WALLA – Providence St. Mary Medical Center and the American Red Cross has launched an appeal for blood and platelet donors. As the number of trauma cases, organ transplants and elective surgeries rise, the nation’s blood inventory is depleted. The American Red Cross is currently experiencing a severe blood shortage.
Donors of all blood types are urged to make an appointment as soon as possible. Especially needed are those who are Type O as well as platelet donors. Hospitals are responding to an unusually high number of traumas and emergency room visits. The demand from trauma centers has risen by 10 percent this year when compared to 2019.
People who want to schedule appointments can call 800-733-2767. If an immediate appointment isn’t available, people are urged to schedule one in the future, as the need will remain great.
