WALLA WALLA COUNTY – Walla Walla County Emergency Management reports the Hair Road Fire was contained at 11:19 Monday night. It’s estimated the blaze has consumed 9,000 to 10,000 acres. Command of the fire has been returned to Walla Walla Fire District No. 1, and an engine remains on the scene patrolling the perimeter.
Incident Commander Robert Clendaniel, the chief of Walla Walla Fire District No. 8, reported that several utility poles were damaged by the fire. Columbia REA turned power off in the area. It appears the utility was at work this morning (Tuesday) restoring electric service.

WALLA WALLA COUNTY – The Hair Road Fire is reported to be approximately 2,000 acres in size. It is in the vicinity of Lower Monumental Road. The fire was called in at 1:37 p.m. today (Monday) as someone spotted smoke. The size estimate of the blaze was reported at 4:46 p.m.
The fire grew quickly. Responders have been dispatched from the cities of College Place and Walla Walla as well as fire districts 1 through 8. A mutual aid request for a wildland strike team from Franklin County was made at 3:44 p.m.
It’s estimated that at least 75 firefighting personnel are on the scene. Incident Commander Chief Bob Clendaniel of Walla Walla County Fire District No. 8 said that two residences and 10 to 12 outbuildings were threatened by the fire earlier, but have been saved. No other houses are threatened at this time.
Walla Walla County Emergency Management reports that the downward spread of the fire has been stopped at Lower Monumental Road. Winds of 15 miles per hour are challenging fire-fighting efforts and the blaze is not yet contained.
No evacuations have been ordered. Residents in the area are encouraged to register for Walla Walla County Citizen Alert emergency notifications. Emergency Management is also posting updates about the fire on its Facebook page and website. Lower Monumental Road is closed until further notice from the Lower Monumental Dam to Casey Road.
