WALLA WALLA – With less than three months to go before the 2021 Walla Walla Fair and Frontier Days, there is a lot of work going on behind the scenes.
“We have pressure washed the old barns and will begin painting them this week,” Manager Greg Lybeck said.
A Washington State Department of Corrections crew will be painting five old barns white under the supervision of the fairground’s maintenance staff.
“We already have the paint so it will not cost us much to improve their look,” Lybeck said. “We will trim them with some color other than white, green I believe.”
The fair is also building a new wash rack for the goats who move to Barn No. 1 this year.
“I hope that we can have that completed in a few weeks,” Lybeck said.
Work also continues along Tietan Street where trees have been cut down and stumps will soon be removed.
“We are discussing replacing that section of fence after fixing the sprinklers and planting some grass,” Lybeck adds. “This will greatly improve our curb appeal on Tietan.”
The back half of the security building which is used by the Walla Walla County Sheriff’s Office and private security is also being remodeled.
“Most of the materials and labor for these projects have been donated,” Lybeck said.
The old Pepsi reader board sign will also be coming down. Lybeck said it will be replaced by a new electronic reader board. The sign should arrive on June 28 and be up and running within a few weeks after its arrival.
“Pepsi wants the sign and post back,” Lybeck added. “I’m not sure what they will do with it.”
The 2021 Walla Walla Fair and Frontier Days will be held September 1-5.
