PENDLETON – Umatilla County District Attorney Dan Primus has heard nothing more about the status of the Oregon Court of Appeals ruling to overturn the murder conviction of George West Craigen in the killing of Cecil “Rob” Carter in 2011 in Milton-Freewater.

“I think this will be something that will just take quite a bit of time before we know whether or not the Supreme Court is going to take it up on review,” Primus said.

He believes the Oregon Department of Justice has a strong case to make regarding the review request. Once that request is filed, it will take even more time as the Supreme Court considers it and possibly schedules that review.

“There are a lot of moving parts there,” Primus said. “This will be something that will just take quite a bit of time before we know the answer.” Primus said that no matter how long it takes, if the appeals court ruling stands, he’s ready to retry Craigen for that murder.
