JROTC instructor to be remembered

WALLA WALLA – A memorial service will be held Saturday for former Walla Walla High School instructor Gerald Wayne Taylor.

Saturday’s public memorial will be held inside the big gymnasium at Wa-Hi, 800 Abbott Road and begin at 1 p.m.

Taylor, 72, died on Jan. 8, after being shot at his Walla Walla home. Gerald’s son, Stephen A. Taylor, 47, was arrested in connection with the shooting. He is charged with second-degree murder and two counts of first-degree assault, and is currently being held in the Walla Walla County Jail on $750,000 bond.

Joining the U.S. Army in 1966, Gerald Taylor served during the Vietnam War and earned several Purple Hearts and many other awards during his career.

Taylor worked as the Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps enlisted instructor and rifle marksmanship team coach at Wa-Hi for more than 20 years.
